ARCHANGEL: Tamper-proof video archives with AI and blockchain

ARCHANGEL is a way for national archives to prove that a video hasn’t been secretly edited—today or decades from now.

AI creates a temporal content hash: a compact fingerprint from the audio and visuals across minutes or hours.
That fingerprint changes if content is tampered with, but stays the same when the video is re-encoded or format-shifted for preservation.
Fingerprints and the AI models are stored on a proof-of-authority blockchain shared by independent archives, so no single organization can rewrite history.

In a live trial, the national archives of the UK, Estonia, and Norway used ARCHANGEL to safeguard their video collections.

Why it matters: trustworthy digital memory for courts, journalists, and citizens—especially as AI-generated edits become harder to spot.
