Meet GenomAgent: A Team of AI Specialists for Smarter Genomics Q&A

TL;DR: Finding reliable answers in genomics is hard. GenomAgent turns one big AI into a coordinating team of specialists—and beats the current leader by 12% on a key benchmark.

Genomic facts live across many databases. Standard chatbots struggle because they can’t flexibly query those sources. GeneGPT added API calls but depends on rigid interfaces.

We replicated GeneGPT and built GenomAgent, a multi-agent system where dedicated agents search, retrieve, and cross-check information for complex genomics questions. The framework chooses and sequences tools as needed, making it easier to adapt when data sources change.

Results: On nine tasks from the GeneTuring benchmark, GenomAgent outperformed GeneGPT by an average of 12%.

Why it matters: More accurate, adaptable answers for researchers—and a blueprint that extends beyond genomics to other data-heavy sciences.
