TraceRank: Trustworthy Service Search for Crypto-Paid APIs

How can AI agents and developers find API and data services they can actually trust—especially when anyone can spin up fake identities to game the rankings?

David Shi and Kevin Joo propose TraceRank for the x402 network, where services accept crypto payments for access. Instead of counting raw traffic, TraceRank treats real payment transactions like endorsements.

Pay-to-vouch: Reputation flows through payment links, weighted by amount and how recent the payment was.
Seeded reputation: Known, high-quality addresses jumpstart the graph to curb sock-puppet (Sybil) spam.
Quality over volume: Services preferred by trusted users rise above those pumped by many low-reputation payers.
Ask in plain English: Combined with semantic search, it answers natural-language queries with better results.

Why it matters: this approach aims to reduce infrastructure bias and resist Sybil attacks, offering a fairer, more reliable way to discover APIs, data feeds, and inference providers in agent economies.
